HISTORY |
Founded in 1997, fist called Gracie Japan, by Takamasa Watanabe, it was the first official Gracie Jiu-Jitsu School in Japan.
Together with the academy, Watanabe also founded in 1997 the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation of Japan (BJJFJ), and worked as president untill 1999.
In 2000, Gracie Japan moved to a bigger facility and changed its name to Axis Jiu-Jitsu Academy, and became the Official Representative of Japan to the Rickson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Association. Watanabe is still the only Black Belt form Rickson in Asia.
Since the first All Japan Jiu-Jitsu Championship held in 1998, Axis won champion as a Team in all championships it entered officially as a team in Japan.
In 2008, Watanabe founded the Jiu-Jitsu Federation of Japan (JJFJ), a government registered foundation, and a member of Japan Sport Association.
Now with 12 branches in Japan, and 5 abroad, Axis team has more then 1500 members.
